This Duo are good friends of mine Johnathan Kaufman and Johnny Dower Jr. I want to show you guys a little more into their brand "Court Of Wolves".
LET’S GET TO IT!
How did it all start? Break it down what is Court If Wolves?
Court of Wolves, started as Black Tie Movement, then transitioned into what we have today; “Court of Wolves.” Johnny Dower jr. and I, knew we wanted to NOT work for anybody else, so we developed our own record label like that of Roc A Fella back in the day. We wanted to have the clothing and the Music as one. Really just making it a movement, into what it is slowly becoming as of today.
When did you first realize you wanted to Start this company?
We first Realized we wanted to start this company was due to the fact we honestly wanted our own things. We also, wanted to get the music and the word out there, as far as, really inspiring young people to follow their goals. We wanted to show that two young brothers from Compton could really make it without being drug dealers, ball players, and other things. Showing that there are others who can make it, and show their artistry from comic books, to art, and to videos, textiles (clothing) and even photography.
What was the biggest rookie mistake you made when just starting out?
How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?
Fashion is always ever changing, I think working with fashion you start to see trends rise and fall, and we are even starting to see that some trends we grew up on in the 90’s and early 2000’s are making a come back with the new generation.
What role do you think social media plays in fashion today?
Social Media plays a HUMONGOUS role in fashion because it’s easy to connect with people and have an instant communication. We get to see what trends are setting, and what new ideas are coming. You can even get free advertisement with the right formulas and even sponsorship !
What was your biggest fear when going out and starting your own line?
I think the biggest fear is generally cost, impact, and Trademarking.
What is your favorite part about being a designer?
I think my favorite part is us really expressing ourselves and just putting our art out there for the world to see. I think we can always learn, and grow, get ideas and even understand what we want to see. Also, envisioning people in your clothing is awesome as well. You start to see that you almost have a forward vision.
How do you want people to feel when wearing your clothes or sporting your other products?
I want people to feel that they belong to something, I want them to understand that they are in there owns self is great ! I want them to get inspired and change the world. I want them to understand that they are special and can generally accomplish anything. That's what being a Wolf is all about. Not standing in the status Quo and not being a sheep. “ Why be a sheep when you can be a wolf” that’s our slogan. There’s so much pressure for designers to come out with their greatest collections season after season.
There’s so much pressure for designers to come out with their greatest collections season after season. What advice would you give to young designers just starting out and hoping to make it in the industry?
I would just say to them that they need to take their time. Find what inspires them, and what they want to see not only on themselves but also in the world. Id tell them to get in touch with nature and understand history, and draw on the inspiration of each.
